It offers the best, most realistic GRE practice and full tests you can use to estimate your score and gauge your progress. obstreperous. For any test taker preparing to take the GRE, PowerPrep Online is an indispensable resource. What helped me the most in vocab was making comparison vocab cards for similar words The vocab decks I used are repeat offenders on quizlet, Magoosh flashcard common+basic, as well as a couple words I gathered from other vocab decks/practices. I used Magoosh (huge help for verbal strategy), did the ETS verbal book, and came up with my test taking strategy, consolidating it as i did mock exams. At the beginning of my prep i did the kaplan free test as a diagnostic and got Q164, V 157, so I'm pretty happy with the improvement I've had in verbal. I spent 1 month studying for this exam, with most of my efforts focused on the verbal. I felt certain about most of the Qs on this mock, but had a lot of uncertainties with the real thing. However, I feel even this one didn't capture the amount of tricky problems I saw on the real test. I had very little time left after I finished the second quant section. On the actual exam, I got a long passage for the 1st verbal and several short passages for the 2nd, which contained a lot of inference Qs.Īs I mentioned above, the quant on this felt harder to me than any other practice I did (excluding Magoosh). The verbal felt quite similar to me compared to other mock exams, and the structure was very similar to the real thing. (FYI, I did powerprep plus 1 and powerprep 1 on the following days, so I presume I had a similar amount of ability across different mock exams) Out of all the practice i did, this was the closest to my actual grade. I did this 4-5 days before my real exam, and my score on this was a Q170 V165. I wanted to elaborate on my experience with this test, since I could find no review at all for this new powerprep plus (I think it was released earlier this year?) I got complacent about my math ability and just depended on Magoosh, which I regret doing. Though I did not use it, I would recommend the official quant book for sure. Another classic would be the traps on the compare AB questions, I had uncertainties with these questions since my intuition was to consider only bigger or smaller, leading me to neglect the possibility that AB could be equal. The actual exam, on the other hand, tricks you through complex consideration of possibilities, with a lot of Qs like: xy could be which of the following. The nature of trickery on Magoosh was more concept based to me, in that it tricked you through complex logic. In general I would say Magoosh is harder (it estimated a Q162-166 for me), but the sense of difficulty is different. Since I had a pretty good math background, I only watched a few Magoosh videos on topics i was unsure about, like percentile and probability. Hoping grad schools wouldn't care too much about the difference between 169 and 170. I was aiming for Q170 since i wanted to apply to top engineering schools, and I realized that not doing the official quant book was a bad decision on my part. for preparation on the quant I just did some magoosh questions and relied on the mock exam questions. I suspect that I might have made a dumb mistake, or fell into a trap on the compare AB questions. The factor of fatigue was definitely what affected me the most, since none of the ETS mock exams had an experimental section, I was not used to the exhaustion near the exam's end. I had gotten around Q170-169 on most of the practices I did, with the exception of powerprep 2 (felt too tired) and Magoosh. However, I feel none of these really captures the intensity and difficulty of the actual exam. Powerprep plus 1 and powerprep 2 felt quite similar in regards to difficulty of the quant section, and powerprep plus 3 felt harder to me than the both. I usually had around 10 minutes left for each quant section on these, but I had very little time left after finishing the Quant on today's test. Out of these, I felt that the 2 book mock exam and powerprep 1 quant was significantly easier than the real deal. I had done Magoosh, GRE book mock exam, 2 free powerpreps, powerprep plus 1 and 3. I had quant for experimental, but I couldn't tell which one it was since they were equally tricky. I had seen a couple post saying that quant had gotten harder recently, and I can attest that the quant on today's exam was indeed trying. Hi guys, took the GRE today and got Q169 V166, this subreddit has been really helpful so I wanted to share some info that I had trouble finding.
